Sportsmen And Naturalists Flock To Hunting And Fishing Lodges

Picture yourself curled up on an overstuffed couch, reading one of your favorite books in front of a roaring fire, built in a classic stone fireplace. The smell of wood sap is in the air, and if you turn your head you can see out the window onto a magnificent vista of nature in its most pristine element. There are no sirens, no horns, no street lights, no traffic. The only sounds are those common to the outdoors, a squirrel chattering, birds chirping, maybe even the haunting call of a loon on a nearby lake.

If this scene appeals to you, you can probably understand the growing popularity of hunting and fishing lodges.

Hunting and fishing lodges were once the sole indulgence of rich industrialists who through their ventures or capital could afford to have a small getaway tucked into some remote corner of wilderness, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, and pursue their manly inclinations.

The coming of age of the richest generation ever and the unprecedented accessibility via logging roads and other ventures to the great outdoors has now made it possible for almost anybody to enjoy their own hunting or fishing lodge in their version of paradise. Lakeside, mountainside, by rivers or streams, lodges are being built as getaways from life?s drudging routine by people in all walks of life.

The increased popularity of the lodge is no doubt driven by a renewed interest in the natural world. People can come into closer communion with the forest and yet still retain a measure of comfort within the walls of their small lodge. Everything tends to be different in this sort of environment, and owners of lodges will often find they are much better acquainted with their fellow nature lovers with lodges or farms nearby than they are with the people in their own neighborhoods back home. Something about leaving the city seems to trigger a response within the soul that causes us to lose our fears and embrace the unfamiliar.

Best of all, lodges are appealing to those who would not even consider themselves sportspersons. If you choose to try your hand at a fishing rod or at firing a gun, there is no better place to do it. But for some, the lodge will remain purely a place to sit down, relax, and finish the book that you have been trying to read for months, away from the distractions of everyday life.

Customer Review: SO COOL

I LUV Dynasty Mode...and the "Classic Stadiums" option was the greatest ever. I've always wondered what it would feel like to have a 2004 game played and/or broadcast at Crosley Field or Shibe Park (Cincinnati and Philly for you younger rhubarb fans). I have played as the Twins and have had Morneau and Hunter both hit more than 30 HR's before the All-Star break. What's this about Left Handed batters not hitting taters? BAH!

The graphics are hands down the greatest. The fans are still a little thin, but EA is making strides to ensure the baseball stadiums are as lively as the ones in Madden. Give it time..at least MLB bleacher creatures are clapping their hands and you can see some of them in FUBU-like jerseys.

Customer Review: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LIKE IT!!!!! THATZ Y I HAV THIS IN CAPS! BASEBALL FANS, GET IT, NO QWESCHON!!

Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog

Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog

While on a camping trip, Ted Kerasote met a dog—a Labrador mix—who was living on his own in the wild. They became attached to each other, and Kerasote decided to name the dog Merle and bring him home. There, he realized that Merle’s native intelligence would be diminished by living exclusively in the human world. He put a dog door in his house so Merle could live both outside and in.

A deeply touching portrait of a remarkable dog and his relationship with the author, Merle’s Door explores the issues that all animals and their human companions face as their lives intertwine, bringing to bear the latest research into animal consciousness and behavior as well as insights into the origins and evolution of the human-dog partnership. Merle showed Kerasote how dogs might live if they were allowed to make more of their own decisions, and Kerasote suggests how these lessons can be applied universally.

Customer Review: A wonderful stress reliever

Mr. Kerasote has written a gentle and loving story about his relationship with his dog, Merle. The people living in his small town have the luxury of allowing their dogs free rein to wander around their community to their heart's content. Your perspective on what dogs need to be well-adjusted may be altered by Mr. Kerasote's relationship with Merle. If you are looking for a book that is tender and conveying a somewhat spiritual connection to nature, this story is right up your alley.

Customer Review: Merle's Door

A truly great book! A must read for anyone who loves dogs.

The information presented in the book made me more aware of my dog and her needs.

Customer Review: Boring

I was really disappointed in the quality of this game after reading the reviews. I expected more. The controls are hard to get down. You get the feeling that nothing you do affects what happens. I'm really having a hard time finding good Wii games beyond Wii Sports and Wii Play!

Customer Review: A good deal

I checked out the reviews here before buying this and have not been disappointed. I have been impressed with the graphics on each of the games that I've played. The controls are somewhat complicated to master (curling is very difficult to learn), but I think once you take a couple of falls you figure out what exactly needs to be done. The instructions for the controls on screen aren't that great, I would recommend reading the instructions in the manual first. I do think this will be a great party game with our friends and family. And at the price, it will be one of the sports games we turn to.

Customer Review: Cheap

The tiny plastic hinges on mine were broken straight out of the box. I ended up using tape to keep the door shut, and stuck it behind a cabinet.

The only thing I like about it is that you can plug four wall transformers into it without covering up adjecent plugs.

Customer Review: Neat and Compact!!!

I have a tangled mess behind my entertainment center and needed something that would disguise all my wires and this product did the trick. You have plenty of room for your cords and it also looks real nice. Another thing is if you have any indoor pets that like to mess with everything this keeps the cords where they wont be able to bother them.

Starting Strength (2nd edition)

Starting Strength (2nd edition)
Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training is the new expanded version of the book that has been called "the best and most useful of fitness books." It picks up where Starting Strength: A Simple and Practical Guide for Coaching Beginners leaves off. With all new graphics and more than 750 illustrations, a more detailed analysis of the five most important exercises in the weight room, and a new chapter dealing with the most important assistance exercises, Basic Barbell Training offers the most complete examination in print of the most effective way to exercise.

Customer Review: Excellent Manual for the Big Lifts

This book is quite thorough and the terminology aimed squarely at coaches. As a bioengineering student, it was especially relevant to learn about the biomechanical aspects of each lift.

For instance, explaining how holding a deep breath or wearing a belt helps during a squat was actually an engineering problem in class. Many myths are dispelled and explain that it is quite safe to let your knees travel over your toes slightly, and to squat so that your hip crease goes below the top of your knees. And more than that, it explains how beneficial it is to squat deep.

I've read through this book twice. The writing is unpretentious and the writers don't just throw around scientific terms to wow you. It is as concise as it can be, considering it troubleshoots the squat, deadlift, bench press, overhead press, power clean, and assistance exercises. This is definitely the book to recommend to beginners.

Both my girlfriend and I do a similar 5x5 program that is recommended in this book and the results have been fantastic. We are one of the few doing squats properly in our gym. The results have been great and the lifts much more fun than just doing a million isolation exercises (such as curls and abs).

Customer Review: Very Good, but

Starting Strength is a very good training aid, and contains a wealth of knowledge, but is dry regarding the application of this knowledge.

This book is a must own, but don't expect much with regards on how to piece together a training program for your goals, or based on your experience level or needs.

Ticket to Ride

Ticket to Ride
October 2, 1900 was 28 years to the day that noted London eccentric, Phileas Fogg accepted and then won a $20,000 bet that he could travel "Around the World in 80 Days". Now at the dawn of the century it was time for a new "impossible journey." Some old friends have gathered to celebrate Fogg's impetuous and lucrative gamble and to propose a new wager of their own. The stakes: $1 million -- and the winner takes all competition. The objective: to see who can travel by rail to the most cities in North America - in just 7 days. The journey begins immediately...

Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure where players collect cards of various types of train cars than enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. Includes a detailed board, game cards, help cards, rules, train miniatures and more.

Customer Review: A favorite with many

This is a great medium concentration game. The strategy is not too tricky, but challenging enough to hold your interest. Basically, you either collect or play train cards on your turn. You need to have the same number and color to play on a route, and then you connect your routes to match the bonus on your ticket. The score for routes increases by the number of train cards needed, from 1 point for 1 to 15 points for 6. My only complaint is that there are a few tickets that might be weighted a little high and lucking into one of these on the initial draw gives a slight advantage. You get a higher bonus to connect farther apart cities, but some of these have longer routes between them which give you a bonus already. Overall, a solid and very fun game.

I have not yet had the chance to play it with 2, but I know from experience that it works equally well with 3, 4 or 5.

Customer Review: Great game

Ticket to Ride is a game with few rules and many possibilities. Its simple goal of building train routes masks a complexity that is an optimizer's delight. Figuring out the best configuration is just half the fun. As you and the other players quickly develop a taste for backstabbing (and you will), it is how to win ugly that makes the game truly fascinating. The sturdy construction and nice presentation of the board and game pieces will further ensure that you will enjoy this game for years to come.

Luna Bars, 1.69-Ounce Bars

Luna Bars, 1.69-Ounce Bars
Customer Review: Great taste, great nutrition. Beware of the nutrition label!

This is something I have been looking for a long time. It's very tasty and really good for you. Now, I understand some comments here describing it as a little medicine/protein like. I believe those comments are by people who have never actually tried protein/nutrition candy. Luna bar far exceeds in taste quality any other bar on the market I have tried (and there had been many). I found that this unwanted flavor is absent in Caramel Nut Brownie, Raspberry Chocolate, and S'mores.

One comment: the nutrition facts are not precise. This is not a 48g bar, it is actually 52g (I weighed many bars, that is the average). This means, that Caramel Nut Brownie has not 190 kcal, but approximately 205 kcal.

Customer Review: dark chocolate variety pack

If you don't like dark chocolate, don't get the items included in the variety pack.
